President Pahor receives congressmen of the United States of America
Ljubljana, 7. 8. 2017 | press release
Today, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, received Congressmen of the United States of America Devin Nunes and Frank LoBiondo, who are on a visit to Slovenia together with their delegation.
In their discussions, President Pahor and Congressmen Nunes and LoBiondo touched on the relations between our countries and confirmed that the countries were close allies and partners. President Pahor expressed support for the gradual increase in the defence capacities of the European Union, whereby he found it equally important that the EU and the USA maintain and strengthen their strategic alliance in politics, the economy, and military.
The discussion also focused on the dynamic geopolitics of South-Eastern Europe. Slovenia is carefully monitoring the situation in the region, and as an active Member State of the European Union and the NATO Alliance, it is involved in peacefully resolving any disputes.
This year, by meeting the most prominent representatives of American politics, President Borut Pahor marks the 25th
anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries. In April, he hosted American Senator John McCain in Slovenia, and in July, he met the President of the USA, Donald Trump, in Warsaw and invited him to visit Slovenia; in a week, he will also welcome a delegation of six American senators in Ljubljana.
