The President of the Republic of Slovenia receives the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Bai Chunli

Today, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, received for a discussion the President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Dr. Bai Chunli, who was accompanied by his host the President of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Prof. Dr. Tadej Bajd.

During the discussion, the President of the Republic of Slovenia stated that Slovenia and China were friends, and that he was especially glad that he could receive the highest representative of Chinese science, since this way we can show that we have, and wish to develop, cooperation in all, even the most complex, fields. The presidents of both academies presented to the President of the Republic of Slovenia plans for interacademy cooperation which has already existed in the field of karstology and will be extended to the fields of biomedicine and the exchange of researchers. During the discussion, the President of the Republic of Slovenia said that he would support the increasing number of exchange students. The President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences reacted positively to the proposal of the President of the Republic of Slovenia to make a replica of Hallerstein's astronomical instrument in Beijing, which could be erected in a public place in Ljubljana as a monument to Slovenian–Chinese friendship and also as a monument to Slovenian astronomer Ferdinand Augustin Haller von Hallerstein (1703–1774) who was active as a missionary in China.

The discussion with the President of the Republic of Slovenia was also attended by Prof. Jinghua Cao, head of the International Department of the CAS, Mr Li Jun, Director of Sugon which operates within the CAS, and Mag. Tomi Ilijaš, Director of the Slovenian company Arctur which has been cooperating with Sugon in technological development.
