The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, received Antonio Costa, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Portugal, who is currently on a working visit to Slovenia.
In opening his speech, President Pahor highlighted the excellent friendly and diplomatic relations between the countries, which have already seen the 25th
anniversary of their establishment. The partners in dialogue agreed that Slovenia and Portugal share many common views regarding complex international matters, such as Brexit and the future of the European Union. Slovenia and Portugal remain committed to the further integration of the European Union and to maintaining a joint connection, of course with some adjustments that will result in responses to current needs and conditions. On this occasion, President Pahor stated that it was necessary to consider the long-term vision of the EU based on the further integration and solidification of joint European institutions.
At the end of the visit, President Pahor told his guest that Portugal was an important partner of the Republic of Slovenia and that we wish to maintain active political dialogue with the country. Furthermore, the partners in dialogue touched on the good bilateral cooperation in the past during the 2007–2008 presidency of the European Council, which will be repeated in 2021.
