President Pahor confers state decoration on Congressman Paul Gosar

Ljubljana, 12. 4. 2019 | press release

At a special ceremony at the President’s Office, Slovenian President Borut Pahor awarded the Golden Order of Merit for services in the area of international diplomacy to Congressman Paul A. Gosar, for his contributions to and participation in strengthening relations between Slovenia and the United States of America, for strengthening Slovenian-American friendship and for fostering continued close relations between the two countries.

Paul Anthony Gosar, an American congressman of Slovenian descent, has a great deal of affection for Slovenia. He is genuinely proud of his Slovenian roots, tries to preserve his memory of them, and mentions his Slovenian origins in official presentations. He is always ready to work with the Slovenian embassy in Washington, and has offered his assistance on several occasions. He was particularly committed to the establishment of a friends’ group at the U.S. House of Representatives, in which he took the role of co-chair.

The establishing of the Friends of Slovenia Caucus represents a new phase in the development of relations between the two countries, and presents an opportunity for more intensive strengthening of relations. The establishing of the group opens up new possibilities for closer bilateral cooperation, particularly for all forms of intergovernmental cooperation between the Friends of Slovenia Caucus from the United States and the Slovenian National Assembly. The establishment of the Friends of Slovenia Caucus at the House of Representatives is primarily the work of Congressman Gosar.
