The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, and his wife, Barbara Miklic Türk, together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and Tanja Peèar, hosted a reception for the diplomatic corps to mark the beginning of the new year. In his address Dr Türk emphasised that, in view of the global recession, the year behind us was not an easy one. He also touched upon the issue of climate change, the global role of the European Union, human rights, measures to resolve humanitarian problems and the situation in South Eastern Europe. Moreover, the Slovenian President introduced to the diplomatic corps Slovenia's efforts in these areas. more »

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, attended the 40th gathering of Slovenians from the Province of Udine and the Posoèje region. In his address Dr Türk stressed that the Slovene national minority in the Province of Udine did not have the same status as the Slovene communities in the Trieste and Gorizia provinces, this discrimination having been and remaining unjust. According to President Türk, it is right that, on this 40th anniversary, we pause to reflect on the common Slovenian cultural area. In his address he also highlighted the non-implementation of laws and other open issues relating to the situation of Slovenians in Italy. more »

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today received the President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesiæ, on his official visit to Slovenia, this also being Mr Mesiæ's farewell visit upon the expiry of his term of office. After being received with military honours, the two presidents had a brief one-on-one meeting, followed by plenary talks between the delegation of the Republic of Slovenia and the delegation of the Republic of Croatia, led by Dr Türk and Mr Mesiæ, respectively. more »

The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk, today arrived on an official visit to the State of Kuwait, where he was received by the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. In an extended one-to-one meeting, the Slovenian President and the Kuwaiti Emir assessed relations between the two countries as traditionally good and called for their further enhancement.
