The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danilo Türk, attended the opening of the "Europe in Postojna" event, which marked the opening of the 11th European Students Championships in Forestry Skills and the 2nd Olympics for Wood Industry Professions, a national student competition. In his address, he highlighted the importance of forestry and the wood economy for Slovenia, its development, and for the whole of Europe. He stressed that the forest and its biodiversity are a great treasure for Slovenia, and that wood processing presents a huge opportunity for the country. more »

The Slovenian President, Danilo Türk, and his wife, Barbara Mikliè Türk, attended the opening ceremony of the 6th International Wild Flower Festival. In his address, Mr Türk emphasised that Alpine flowers, including edelweiss, orchid, primula or Bohinj iris, are important elements of the Slovenian national identity. According to the president, concern for alpine flowers is also part of noble and global efforts to conserve biodiversity, an issue which will rank high on the agenda of the July UN Conference on Sustainable Development or Rio+20 Conference to take place in Rio de Janeiro. more »

In his address to the participants, he touched upon one of the the meetings' topics, raising the question of whether Western rationalistic civilisation is heading towards new horizons or is retrogressing. President Türk pointed out that this is a very serious and wide-ranging question, one which has been repeatedly raised in Europe since at least the publication of Oswald Spengler's works. more »

During their talks, President Türk and his guest focused on topics associated with Albania's efforts to join Euro-Atlantic structures.
